Episode 7: The Top Ten News Angles You Should Pitch Right Now to Land Media Features for FREE!

You cannot get more practical than this blog post of Nable My Business!

There’s so much business and self-development talk out there, so many books, podcasts and courses, conferences, and summits.  But what I’ve realised since starting Nable My Business is that so many leaders and experts talk about the why, the inspiration, the challenges, and the problem, but not many actually grab you by hand and say THIS IS HOW.  This is how you do the thing, fix the problem, grow you business, make more sales.

That’s what I want to do with Nable My Business and that’s exactly the ethos behind Episode 7 of the podcast.

I’ll still bring you loads of journalists, PR people, successful entrepreneurs, courageous leaders and inspirational episodes.  But this is episode is about the doing.

Pitching the Media and building your business as an industry expert is prime for procrastination in any small business.  You’re too busy just getting...

Episode 6: The Power of Story-Telling Using Instagram Stories with Baby Mac

The history of storytelling goes back thousands of years. Cave dwellers used pigment to paint on walls with their hands to create stories and myths. The ancient Greeks carved their language into walls to tell how history was moving forward.

Telling stories is one of the number one ways humans create connections to each other, to our communities, to our culture or to ideals.  We use stories to find a common thread, to establish trust, to entertain, to give us another perspective.  You can tell a story with words, or with images, or both.

Story-telling is in every aspect of our lives, books, movie plot lines, newspapers, conversations with friend, songs, plays, in an artwork on the wall, in our education…and now social media.

As business owners, especially if you’re not social media savvy, being active on those social channels and telling your brands’ story can feel like a chore.  Even if you are familiar with how it works, it’s yet another task...

Episode 5: How COVID has Changed The Way You Should Market Your Business Forever
55:04

The Top Three Things You Can Do in Digital Marketing for your small to medium business right now.

I'd like to preface this episode by saying you do not have to be an expert at digital marketing to make it work for your business. In fact, - unless that’s already your wheelhouse it’s unlikely you will be, because we all know as small business owners we are already wearing so many hats in or business every day. The goal of this episode is to highlight and breakdown a couple of the top things you can do right now to work smarter, not harder in your business. That’s the beauty of digital marketing, the potential reach to new customers – customers that 10 years ago would never have known you existed. Covid has changed so much about the way we do business and a lot of those changes are here to stay. There are pros and cons to this, on one hand it costs more than it ever has to be “seen” online on a regular basis through avenues like Facebook ads, because...

Episode 4: A Young Woman, a Wallet & Oprah Winfrey's Wishlist
54:30

What does a young woman, just starting out in her own business do, when the world’s most famous female entrepreneur and media juggernaut picks her product out of a line-up of thousands as one of the hottest must-have accessories of the year?

Making Oprah Winfrey’s Annual List of her Favourite things is any business owner’s lifelong dream.  A golden goose it would seem and a first-class ticket into one of the toughest retail markets in the world, the United States.

It’s an elusive dream for many, and some even hire marketing experts and PR machines to actively pitch to get a coveted spot on that list year in and year out, most with zero return on their investment and no dice at the end.

But Lou King, founder of Australian leather goods company, Arlington Milne, never even tried, it was her 2015 best-selling wallet that caught the American TV Talks Show hosts eye after her creative director picked it up at a Las Vegas tradeshow.

I’ll let Lou...

Episode 3: How to Pitch The Media - Top Tips from Former 60 Minutes Producer Bryce Corbett
47:24

Bryce Corbett has done it all.
He’s worked as a reporter, writer, journalist and producer across 24 hour news, financial news, print features, women’s magazines, gossip columns, long format news and current affairs programs.
He’s also worked as an executive editor, in PR and crisis communications for small business and huge corporations.
He’s authored four best-selling books, including ghost writing well-known Australians, Rosie Batty and Turia Pitt's biographies.
He’s literally received thousands of media pitches across his career, and admits on some days had
so many story pitches in his inbox every day he just deleted most of them.

Like many journalists of his calibre and experience, Bryce has crossed to the dark side a couple of times and pitched stories from the PR side to the media, so if there was anyone who’s advice you should listen to about how to successfully pitch your story idea every-time, it’s Bryce Corbett.

Episode 2: Building Your Brand as an Industry Expert with Mel Browne

Episode 2: Building Your Brand as an Industry Expert with Mel Browne
41:59

I've known Mel for a while now, we met in 2016 in a Business Chicks program called Power Players, designed to help small to medium business owners level up their leadership and business skills and take their growth to the next level.

Mel Browne is that one friend you have that always has their sh#t together.

Basically she's a beautifully dressed, whip smart ex-accountant, with amazing shoes who educates women about money, occasionally using Haigh’s chocolate frogs to illustrate her point. Mel is also an ex-financial advisor, now financial educator and business strategist, best-selling author and chocolate addict.

She’s not your typical money type….in fact she’s the polar opposite to the “a-typical” accountant that first comes to mind when you think about smart money management. Basically, a middle-aged bloke, wearing a suit and glasses and sitting in a high-rise office in the city. But it's Mel's "anti" stereotypical look and financial narrative...

Episode 1: The Power of Passion, Persistence & Patience with Natalie Barr
1:16:00

There's a saying in the small business world "What Looks Like Success is Often Just Patience"...and my first guest on the podcast, Natalie Barr, is absolutely the poster child for that.

She waited 18 years to get promoted to the top of the television totem pole...patiently ploughing away in her role as Newsreader on Channel 7's Sunrise and biding her time, choosing to simply enjoy the journey instead.

If you're in Australia you'll know Nat as one half of the very successful morning television hosting duo, Nat and Kochie, on Seven's top rating TV show, Sunrise.

If you're not familiar with Nat, allow me to introduce her. Natalie Barr is a very talented journalist, producer, newsreader and television show host.  Some media commentators would call her the "darling" of morning television.  Nat says she's just a mum and a news junkie news who's addicted to the pressure of live TV.

Nat's success story is not a typical one.  A small town country girl from...
