Sound familiar?

Is this you?

  • You know your business has huge potential, but you're not sure how to start getting press.
  • PR feels overwhelming, so you've put it in the too hard basket.
  • Self-promotion doesn't feel natural or comfortable.
  • You keep seeing competitors in the media and wonder, "How are they doing this?"
  • You've relied on Meta ads, and you're tired of rising costs and unpredictable results.

That's exactly why I created Media Masters Academy.

A PR agency is out of reach for most small businesses, and ads cost more every month. Media coverage is free, it builds trust that ads can't buy, and once you know how the media works you can keep getting it. In six weeks I'll show you the stories journalists actually want, how to pitch them, and how to turn each win into the next one. No sleazy self-promotion, no confusion. Just a clear formula you can follow.

Module 1 · Released Thu 29 Oct

Your Business in the Media

Stop hoping for exposure. Start with a plan.

Most business owners chase a feature without knowing why they want it, or whether their customers will ever see it. This module fixes that. You'll build a media and PR strategy around your goals, so every pitch moves you closer to where you want to be. You'll also see why media works so well: research shows most consumers prefer getting to know a company through articles rather than ads, and journalists are looking for real founders like you.

What you'll learn

  • How to set a clear end goal, whether that's building authority, selling products, driving traffic or growing awareness
  • A five-minute hack for finding exactly where your audience reads, watches and listens
  • How to get more from every win across your newsletter, website, Google Business page and social, instead of posting once and moving on
  • The five main ways to get featured: op-eds, profiles, contributed pieces, news-jacking and gift guides
  • How to get your business media-ready, so you look credible when a journalist checks you out

You'll walk away withA clear media plan, a list of target outlets, and a way to measure success.

Module 2 · Released Wed 4 Nov

Building Your Brand Story

Turn your business history into a story people remember.

A great brand story is one of the most valuable assets you'll ever own. It builds trust, makes you memorable, and gives the media a reason to care about you. Using a proven 10-question framework, you'll turn a list of dates and facts into a story that's honest, emotive and unmistakably yours. You'll learn to be open about your challenges without falling into the “woe is me” trap, and how to turn tough moments into the chapters that connect most.

What you'll learn

  • Why storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to build influence and loyalty
  • The 10-question framework for uncovering the moments that matter, from how your idea started to what you love about your business
  • A before-and-after example showing how plain dot points become a compelling story
  • How to write for your audience, with a full version for your website and a short version for LinkedIn and pitches
  • Real examples of brand stories that work, and what makes them land

You'll walk away withA full brand story, a short bio version, and a story you can use in every pitch, bio and About page.

Module 3 · Released Wed 11 Nov

Pitch Like a Pro

Learn to think and pitch like a journalist.

Journalists don't want your sales brochure. They want a story. This module gives you the insider approach from a former journalist, so you know what makes an idea newsworthy and how to package it so it gets read. You'll learn the difference between a press release and a personal pitch, then follow a simple structure you can use again and again.

What you'll learn

  • How to find story ideas hiding in your own business, from seasonal angles to news-jacking
  • The NABLE formula for testing whether an idea is worth pitching
  • An eight-step pitch structure, from the opening line to the call to action
  • How to pitch TV, radio, print and podcasts, including who to contact and what each one wants
  • Subject line tips that get opened, and follow-up tactics that work without being pushy

You'll walk away withA set of pitch-ready story ideas and a proven pitch template you can use immediately.

Module 4 · Released Mon 7 Dec

  • How to move past imposter syndrome and claim your expertise with confidence
  • The PROFILE formula for building a one-page media kit

Meet your coach

Hi, I'm Liz.

Former TV news reporter and producer, now small business owner (just like you!).

I spent 15 years in TV newsrooms as a journalist and producer, including six years in New York. I've sat on the other side of the pitch, so I know what makes a journalist say yes.

Then I became a small business owner myself, as Australia's first Xtend Barre franchisee, and got featured in every major media organisation in Australia without spending a cent on PR. Media Masters Academy is the formula I used, with the curtain pulled right back.

  • 15 years in TV news
  • Host of the Media Magnet podcast
  • Writes for Women's Agenda

Questions

Do I need a big business or a PR background?

No. You don't need to be a certain revenue size or have a team. What matters is that you own and run your business and have a message worth sharing. Whether you're a founder, an entrepreneur or running a side hustle, if you're ready to step into the spotlight, this is for you.

How much time does it take?

Around 2 to 3 hours a week during the course: about an hour of training, an hour of live calls, and time to write and pitch. After the course, Liz's pitching routine takes about 2 hours a week, one hour to pitch and one to follow up.

How do the journalist pitch sessions work?

You pitch your story idea live to a working journalist or producer, in a small group. Each session runs 60 to 90 minutes. You do some pre-work so you're ready, and you leave with direct feedback even if your pitch isn't picked up on the spot.

Is it one on one coaching?

It's small group coaching with live feedback in every session and in the private group. If you pay in full, you also get a 30 minute one on one with Liz. Private coaching is available separately if you want more.

Why not just pay a publicist?

A publicist typically costs $5,000 to $10,000 a month. The Academy gives you the skills, templates and contacts to run your own PR for good. Even if you hire someone later, knowing how the media works makes you a better client.

How long do I have access?

12 weeks of access to the course (six during, six after), lifetime access to the alumni Facebook group, and three months of the media database. You can also join Inner Circle afterwards to stay consistent.

What happens if I'm not accepted?

Liz reads every application herself and emails you with her answer either way. If it isn't the right fit this round, your $497 deposit is refunded in full within 48 hours. She runs the Academy four times a year, so there's always another round.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. Choose two monthly payments of $2,650 or three of $1,797 when Liz accepts your application.
